Planet Ark's top water saving tips in the garden:

  • Where it is permissable to water, water your garden in the morning or late afternoon to help reduce water loss through evaporation.

  • Put mulch around your plants. This helps improve your soil's condition and ability to retain moisture by up to 70 percent.

  • Select local native plants and other water-wise plants and lawns. They require less maintenance and attract native wildlife.

  • Use a broom and not a hose to clean paths and driveways.

  • Use greywater to water your garden. See Planet Ark's greywater fact sheet for more information.
